Patricia Skinner
About:
Freelance Writers Manifesto was a venture dreamed up by myself and Allison Landa. Together we aim to create an environment where every writer knows that accepting low-paid writing jobs is doing themselves–and every other writer–a great disservice!

UNphotographable
About:
Unphotographable is a catalog of exceptional mistakes. Photos never taken that weren’t meant to be forgotten. Opportunities missed. Simple failures. Occasions when I wished I’d taken the picture, or not forgotten the camera, or had been brave enough to click the shutter.

Making Light: Absolute Write is gone
Yesterdays feature, The Middle of Nowhere (with illustrator and writer Gretel Parker), galvanized me to begin a google-feast for writers sites, blogs and books. This morning (instead of working on a web project), googling brought a writer’s kerfluffle.
In Absolute Write is gone the cast includes miffed agent Barbara Bauer, a hosting company gone sour, and the Absolute Write writers community.
Ticking off writers with blogs is just as mind-numbingly stupid as upsetting designers with blogs. Remember the LogoWorks Saga? There’s power in blogs. And with 7000 members, Absolute Write and the 20 Worst Agents Saga will be interesting to watch.
None of these agents has a significant track record of sales to commercial (advance-paying) publishers, and most have virtually no documented and verified sales at all (many sales claimed by these agents turn out to be vanity publishers). All charge clients before a sale is made, whether directly, by charging fees such as reading or administrative fees, or indirectly, for editing services.
Absolute Write is now in the process of rebuilding their site. You can see the beginnings at www.absoluteclasses.com.
The agents list can be found at www.20worstagents.com.
