Giving Thanks
Giving Thanks

I’m taking off for the holidays so DWB will be running on auto pilot.

Before I go, I’d like to give thanks to the gernormous community who made DWB easier to manage.

WordPress: A huge THANK YOU goes to the programmers and supporters at WordPress. In my limited experience it’s a beaut of a package (the only serious limitations I’ve come across are my own). If you are also a fan of WP, head on over to WordPress | GoodStorm.com and grab some t’s.

Theron Parlin: The WordPress theme I’ve tweaked, broken, fixed and massaged is Benevolence, created by Theron of Thought Mechanics.com. Thanks Theron, as you can see I haven’t gone too far from your original design. The simplicity of Benevolence was the best fit (in my thinking) for DWB.

Dan P. Benjamin: DWB (as I keep wittering on about) is not just about the blogs, it’s about the people behind the blogs. The random image rotator by Dan from Automatic creates the people feel I was going for.

Dr Dave: Along with people, you get spam. Lots of spam. And I have a lot to be thankful for when it comes to the Ultimate Spam Killer. Created by Dr Dave and a whole lot of other people, SK2 works in the background to make spam a rare occurrence on DWB.

Matt Brett: Standardising Feed Icons was the brainchild of Matt. Thanks Matt, it’s a simple, yet needed idea. When I started blogging there were so many designs for feeds, I wasn’t sure what they really were. By creating a standard, new blog readers will ease into using feeds a lot quicker.

Scott Merrill: When I switched to WP2.0 I had a bit of a hiccup and had to rewrite several weeks of posts (it was a pain I hope doesn’t repeat). Soon after the snafu I found Scott’s plugin, the WordPress Database Backup. Thanks Scott, it’s now another silent savior on DWB.

Mark Jaquith: External Links is another simple, yet useful offering to DWB readers. The blogging community have convinced me to stop with the target=”_blank”. Not that I prefer it, but because they seem to think it’s the future. As a compromise, I’ve added the External Links plugin so readers know when to control where to go. Mark, I thank you. I’m pretty sure those reading also DWB thanks you. (Since this blog doesn’t exactly get comments it looks like winging the reply, but I do get miles and miles of emails).

Arne Brachhold: Arne is the author ofGoogle Sitemaps. It doesn’t save anything but it does makes it easier to get indexed. Thanks Arne, I need all the indexing I can scrounge.

FeedBurner: What blogger wouldn’t give thanks to all you folks over there at FeedBurner?

Steve Smith: … and to Steve, who joins in with his FeedBurner feed replacement.

Ajay D’Souza: I just loaded Snap Preview Anywhere this morning. You can get it from Snap. Thanks Ajay. I see you’re a MyBlogLog member. Excellent.

I’m me.. obviously enough: Sig2feed is another new plugin I’ve added recently. If you haven’t seen the results, it’s for those who are viewing DWB via a feed. Thanks goes to me. Obviously.

And the rest: Not to be left out, Site Meter, StatCounter, Zookoda and Bloglines.

When you tally it up, that’s a lot of people, time and skills. Thanks to everyone and all.

Thanks, and good-by for awhile. Posts will still appear, but it’s (most likely) my last physical day here on DWB until after the holidays.

Warning, during my database snafu I lost the ability to preview posts before launch. Apologies, but you may have to suffer through a few glitches for longer than usual (graphics not appearing and such). Until I can get back online anyway (fingers crossed there won’t be many).

I hate blogging blind so if anyone out there has a fix, please, PLEASE drop me a line.

Anon, thanks, and ho ho ho … cat
