Apologies for running late. I broke my toe last night and it’s getting in the way of my obligations. I don’t know why a broken toe slows down my typing, it just does.
Recipe for toe breaking:
- buy pair of rain drums
- replace coffee table (wooden trunk filling in for table) with said drums
- move wooden truck around the corner
- neglect to turn on lights when moving swiftly down hall for glass of water
- ram toe into trunk where dead air used to be
- take drugs
- do NOT, I repeat, do NOT repeat steps 1 through 5. Go straight to 6.
Which brings me to Stefan … What do you do when you can’t settle? What do you do when you’ve just acquired exciting plane tickets and can’t get back to work?
Do you:
Watch the news? (check) walk down the Soi and buy flowers? (check) clean the kitty litter? (pass) simmer chicken bones? (check) break your middle toe? (check) drool over Communication Arts 50 Essential Bookmarks? (bingo).
Have I ever got a treat for you. Two treats actually. Stefan Bucher is treat number one. Coming next will be Russell Davies. If you have the time, please, please, spend time at both. Follow any link and you’ll shiver for hours. I know I did. Wow.

From Stefan:
Why now? Why today? Because I have much more pressing things to do that I don’t want to do, of course. If they ever make an anti-procrastination pill, I’ll be first in line. Right after I finish this post. And this crossword puzzle. And do my laundry. And watch some M*A*S*H.
Exactly.
There’s just so much to share about Stefan. His books, his work, his play, his sculpture, his column on STEP, his thoughts and dreams … where to start?
Well, how about popping the cork on a bottle of red, ripping off the tin foil of a bar of dark chocolate, and relaxing in for the duration? (Or, in my case, chase a couple of pain killers and anti inflammatory tabs down with a glass of the cow and pot of green tea).
I do promise you this. You’ll be entertained, wow’d and have your inspiration jiggled by the experience.
After you’ve settled in, start off with an interview by Russell Davis, video - meet a designer - stefan bucher, which touches on how Stefan works and lives. Suggestion, turn down Russell’s music for dancing first as the combination gets surreal.
About:
Stefan talks wisely about briefing, ‘greed-control’, the problems of advertising agencies and the scientific study of Donald Duck comics.
