As a former illustrator, I have a soft spot for art. If you do too, look at the rich colours, the sad sweetness of David’s style.

From David:
Sad Scribble has come about as a result of taking dormant doodles that have been filed away and transforming them into pieces worth seeing again. To pull out something that was drawn for no apparent reason and to be able to display them at Sad Scribble has been wonderful.

I try to be very loose with the pen and let it come out without me forcing it too much. When I doodle a Scribble it’s done with ink, not pencil. This forces me to keep drawing and work out the problems without being able to erase and change them.

The end result is a doodle that can seem a bit of a mess and make someone want to discard them. That’s when I started looking at them and began to consider and realize that I had something here.

There were stories in those scribbles that needed to be brought out. So I began to scan them in and by using textures that I have collected to color them, I began to bring life to my once useless doodles.

No longer were they just doodle exercises for my brain but intriguing little stories. They seem to draw you in and cause you to put your own story line to the pieces. It’s been great fun to see so many people respond to them in such a positive way. I hope you can stop in from time to time and put a story to a scribble
