I just received a sad email informing me that Michelle of Mandarin Design passed away this weekend. For those of you who do not know Michelle, she was a generous and gracious person. And like others around the internet, I feel the loss.
Michelle was an inspiration to me. Although I’ve never ‘met’ her, I felt her caring personality from first contact. It was her feature on DWB in February. Her reply was warm and humbling. The same went with the additional emails of encouragement and support for my project.
Once she responded with, “I’m pleasantly surprised and flattered when one thinks of me as a ‘designer’.”
Michelle, you are and always will be.
We’ll miss you … anon.

That’s “Goodrich” actually. But thanks for mentioning her; I’m linking to all the obits etc on my blog, will include yours.
Stu
Thanks Stu.
I’ve corrected it (just the title was incorrect). I was rushing to get on a plane for India and didn’t double check.
I am so sad to hear the news. I have been all over the net, trying to find out what happened to Mandarin, that marvellous site. She was indeed an inspiration. Once when I was first learning about web design, I contacted her, & she actually emailed me personally to help me with an issue I was having. I was so impressed that someone like that would take time to do such a thing. I am indeed saddened by the news. Very saddened.
I agree, she was indeed amazing. Always willing to help personally.
Btw – Most of the story is on her site, in the comments on her last feature.
I’m reminded of her everytime I get a link back from her site, or her banner rolls around, or I see a Css type treatment.
A little late, yes but condolences are sent as I must agree she seemingly was a pleasant and fun person just by reading here post. Generous seems to be an understatement with the free information she provided. I was only recently introduced to her site and she has inspired me with her works to be dedicated to the “alter ego” my blog will represent. Again Merry Xmas and may you rest well in peace.
Late is fine. I hope we all remember her for a good long while.
