Here’s a real design treat for you this December, Margins And Columns.
Margins and columns is run by Pawel Grabowski from Think Two, a web development studio from Ireland.
It’s not often I see a one column design blog these days, and Pawel’s is simply gorgeous. No ads. No banners. No nothing. Nice. I was going to go on and on about just how nice. But, why, when I can cut to the chase with simply fine.
Just this week I did my being nice bit in Bangkok (anyone been watching the news lately?) and helped out my Thai hairdresser. As slim and sleek was all that was needed, I used the one column WordPress theme, PocketT, as a cms (yes, it’s that “Schwing!”)
Looking at the two side by side, I’m now coveting Pawel’s crisp black, greys, and lime greens… how very fine they are.

simple design is the way to go, single columns looks a lot nicer
I’m not a fan of the 3 columns design. I find it claustrophobic.
I like 2 column design with content at the top of the page myself. But the one column design is clean and neat.
single column is easier to read for long content but personally i am not comfortable. looks like some thing is missing
I love the one column layout…why can’t all my clients love it too? If you just need to get some information out there, 1 column is the easiest to read, no distractions. We always run into the problem of clients assuming more is better…and it ends up looking like Yahoo circa 1998. Weeee!
