New state slogan gets passionate State tourism officials say their new “Live Passionately” marketing campaign in part aims to clear up confusion around their well-known “Virginia Is for Lovers” slogan.
Virginia will change tourism campaign featuring gang signEarlier today the state’s tourism arm considered pulling the entire campaign, which employed a heart fashioned out of both thumbs and index fingers. The hand sign is one many associated with the Gangster Disciples, according to several Web sites and the Virginia Gang Investigators Association.
One of several? [cough] [cough]. Oh, do they mean like the Star of David? Ok, now I’m confused.
Heartless Virginia “Attached (see below) is an example of the slight adjustment we were able to make in less than 24 hours at no cost that continues to promote Virginia is for Lovers but eliminates the hand symbol.”
Heartless? Or … ?
Come on Virginia. Buck up. Put the heart back in Virginia. Where it belongs.
EDIT: A friend (thanks WebChicky!) sent in a photo (below). I’m not in the US, but apparently it’s commonly used in medical ads and such. Dear me.
