With so much work on my plate, this morning I’m moving slow.
(the big project that can’t be named … yet = working into the wee hours)
There’s been too many late nights with not enough goofing off time, so I need to regroup my energies for a long weekend of yet more work.
Anyway, to stave off focusing on my to-do list, I looked into a blog submission from milo 317 (passionate surfer chick and photoshop freak).
At DWB (depending how busy I am), when submissions come in I either:
- Add them to the growing ‘Blogs Submitted’ folder in mac mail
- Follow the url to decide to answer now, later, or …
- … follow the url and get distracted.
I’m heading for the third alternative – getting distracted.
In milo’s sidebar there is a link to 5 Ways to Get Noticed for 9Rules Round 5 Selections.
Scrolling down 5 Ways, there is yet another plug for Facebook. Facebook is everywhere, or seems to be everywhere anyway. Is it everywhere, or it just me getting that impression?
I don’t know about you, but I usually need to get a “come hither” more than once before I check out a social site. Why? Because they are time consuming. And, well, there are so many of them. And not just the social sites (del.icio.us, Technorati, etc). There are great blogs waiting for me on Bloglines, then there are podcasts, forums … No, not enough fingers. And usually not enough time.
I have a languishing account with Seth’s Squidoo, where on a day like today I added favourite design books (CSS, Web and Graphic), with my Flickr account tagged to its butt.
I have a lone Flickr photo album (with new friends to respond to …)
I even have a Myspace somewhere and this isn’t it.
So I’ve had Flickr days, Myspace days, and Squidoo days. Del.icio.us and Technorati are everyday. I Stumble when I remember and have serious plans for ma.gnolia. I’ve Pingoated, spurled, BlogBurst blabbed and Ta-da’d. Rojo and Kinja were fleeting and Say-So is still an intention. Today will be Facebook day. Today, friday the 20th of October, is the day I figure out Facebook. Whatever it is.
So here we go …
Facebook started out slow. Right away they ask you to look for friends using a different search criteria. Well, there aren’t any Facebook people in Bangkok. Nor in all of Thailand.
Heading over to play their Friend Game (not knowing what it was), I received a “Sorry, you have too few friends to play”.
The friends issue was nagging at me, so backtracking to the request that started this quest, I contacted Tyme White.
Filling in the ‘My Notes’ section was effortless and will continue to be so. Similar to Squidoo, it sucks in posts from DWB.
On the next stop I uploaded photos. Photos that should have gone into my Flickr account. Adding photos to Facebook was a no brainer. I’ll still need to fill in the details but that’ll have to wait for another flaffing off day. A day when I can fill out the 12 albums I uploaded and maybe add more.
So, where am I on Facebook? If you do a search for Catherine Morley it comes up with three. I’m the ’senior’ one.
On the search page, to the right of the photos you can ‘Send Message’, ‘Poke Her’, ‘View Friends’, or ‘Add to Friends’. Whatever ‘Poke Her’ means, it’ll have to save for later. My team is not blind to blogs, so with a wave of “BYE”, I’m off to work.
(Honest, Jay …)

Well, i appreciate your reading and mentioning my site here, thanks.
Hi Milo,
Thanks for sending me over to 9rules. It was an interesting exercise.
I’ll be in touch.

Very nice site (yours, that is). I can appreciate the ‘getting distracted’ option – I just wish I had a faster net connection to really take advantage of it :)
Hi Scott. Thanks for the compliments. Truthfully, I could work on DWB day in and day out without getting bored.
And the fast connect – you have my sympathies. I’m supposedly on a high speed but high speed in Asia has a different definition then in the West.
When I created the new Contributing Banners page (in the nav) it was soooooooo slooooooooooooooooooow and time consuming.
