Jackie Cawthra is a product designer on a mission: to save people from looking the same. Alarmed at the rate at which small, highly skilled workshops are closing down all over the world in the face of unprecedented competition from mass-market retailers, Jackie recently set off on a mission to scour it for wonderful products and artisans.
The trip is nicknamed ‘Designer Travels’ and Jackie says “the idea is manifold - a voyage of discovery and education about people and the traditions and skills they sustain, a giant global shopping trip, in search of wonderful colours and fabrics and workmanship, the opportunity to collaborate with some of these artists to make some great new pieces for B.E. and a plan to write about what I find for your benefit and theirs. I plan to have a lot of fun, meet some wonderful people and see some great things. I hope I can somehow make a difference and keep you entertained in the process.”
Jackie set up B.E.’S Business Journal as an account of her adventures and her everyday life as Creative Director of B.E.
