I’m starting off the NO!SPEC crusade with Debbie Millman, a megga women with fire in her veins for the design industry. When Debbie discovered our NO!SPEC intentions, she didn’t blink but shot right back “No Spec is *brilliant.* SO necessary. I will do whatever you want to help promote this. I am a rabid believer in the concept and tell my students, staff, potential clients, etc. whenever it comes up. And you know it always does.”

… and she has. While we’ve been putting this project together in a WHOOOSH!, Debbie jumped in to help by writing a fantastic entry for her blog, suggesting different angles on how we can take the NO!SPEC Campaign to the public, all the while sending positive (and timely) emails.

Her article Spec This describes a very real situation between her company, Sterling, and a not-to-be-named-but-oh-so-d-lish-cool company requesting spec work. Keeping with the high standards on Debbie Millman, it’s a beautifully written article ending with “Speculative work denigrates both the agencies and the designers that participate. If we give away our work for free, if we give away our talent and our expertise, we give away more than the work. We give away our hearts for free, and we give away our souls.” Nicely said!

Debbie, thank you VERY much for being here for us. Your enthusiasm throughout this project has been absolutely brilliant. Giving an extra nudge at all the right moments. Megga :-)
