The diary of American artist Claudine Hellmuth is a chatty amalgamation of personal life and work, illustrated with cheerful collages and brief sketches. One of the reasons I featured Claudine is for the obvious inspiration value. I don’t know about you, but I get into the rut of finding more to do online, with less in real life. And with my expanding buttocks I cannot deny the dire need to search out ways to creatively push away from the keys, while continuing to stimulate my skillset.
In the past I’ve worked with collages by manipulating photos of textures, but they’ve all been done via the computer after the sketch has been approved. Collages may just be one way to tackle a part of the problem, while unleashing particularly frustrating creative blocks when they arise. And using the treadmill two floors down should handle the rest.
If you are in the US, Claudine races around giving workshops and classes not just on collage techniques, but inspiration. Yes, I realize her workshops are not publicized as such, but after reading the testimonials, I believe it’s so.
For those of us not in the US, Claudine has authored several books, collage discovery workshop: beyond the unexpected, and collage discovery workshop.

If you can’t catch up with Claudine in the U.S., think about Italy in 2007. I just booked to go to Cortona and see her in action there. I’m totally devoid of artistic abilities but love meeting the people at her workshops. They are the greatest crowd, friendly and inspiring. Of course, I’m a very proud mum.
Bravo to you for picking up on Claudine’s blog and most of all the inspiration and encouragement she offers through her workshops, books and don’t miss the DVDs! Her introduction of podcasts through her blog is yet another way of keeping folks thinking and creating – and isn’t that really what it is all about?!
