Jeff Fisher with ‘ bLog-oMotives’
The majority of you won’t need an introduction regarding Jeff Fisher as he’s such a regular in the halls of design. For those who do, Jeff is the author of the “Savvy Designer’s Guide to Success” from HOW Design Books (I have a small bit at the back), and the Engineer of Creative Identity for Jeff Fisher LogoMotives, as well as a board member for Proscodi and much much more. Jeff has been a long time advocate of professional business practices, and my mentor from early days when I was struggling with the concept of contracts, payment upfront, and standing up for my rights as a designer. I owe a great deal to Jeff’s personal emails guiding me, then picking me up when I’d had it up to HERE and THERE on occasion.
Jeff has been inundated for months what with clients, speaking engagements, then rushing off to slow down on the rare occasion so I was a bit hesitant to ask for anything for the NO!SPEC Campaign. But, in true Jeff form, he came back with a fine review of the Caravan Project. Thanks Jeff, I owe you one. Well, lets say I own you yet another one.
And of course, a thanks goes to Frederick and the chaps at the Caravan Project for being so receptive to our suggestions.
From Jeff:
I want to compliment Frederick Ost for engaging in a positive dialogue with Cat Morley, Project Manager of NO!SPEC, in regards to how their original call for participation constituted “spec” work. The Caravan Project members worked with NO!SPEC to revise their request into a much more ethical design project procedure. I applaud their willingness to take another look out how their project was being conducted and make alterations. I urge other designers to support The Caravan Project and their promotion of NO!SPEC. When you visit the TCP web site you will see their support in the form of the graphic posted below.
