Last year I was contacted by the Spanish publishing company Maomao Publications, to contribute to their new book, Blogs: Mad About Design.
Blog, weblog, logbook … these are words of our time, it felt like they appeared all over the place overnight. Although blogs exist since the end of the 90s, they definitely flourished in 2004. The desire to tell stories, to develop thought through dialogue was always there, so weblogs became a favorite tool to do so. It is as simple to create and publish a blog as it is to check your emails, therefore, content is what really makes the difference. Blogs: mad about design is a shortcut through the web jungle to the most interesting and exciting blogs related to graphic design.
After a back and forth, Maomao decided to include a range of banners from DWB. Scrambling around, I shot off permission emails. Exciting, yes? Absolutely. I’m not sure which banners will be included. I’m not even sure how many. Yet. But I’ll be sure to shout about it here when I do. Promise.
If you are curious about previous banners (some included in Blogs: Mad About Design), then head over to Banners Yr-1 and Banners Yr-2 and Banners Yr-3 to see the growing collection.
And since we’re on the subject, below is a sneak peek of future features.
Note: The banners are shown in order of arrival (artwork, photos, completed banners). The links take you to the individual blogs.

Enjoy!

Hey Jacob, it’ll be interesting to see who all made it into the book. I know of a lot of bloggers who should be in it, for sure!

I was contacted by them, too. It sounds like a great idea. Can’t wait to see the final book. I submitted my info, but I sure wish I had redesigned my blog before then! Oh well, when the readers visit, I suppose they will see the new design (hopefully it doesn’t throw them for a loop, thinking they came to the wrong place!). Oh, and don’t go running to click to my blog; the redesign isn’t up quite yet!

I’m in the same boat. I redesigned since their book went to press too.
“Oh, and don’t go running to click to my blog; the redesign isn’t up quite yet!”
You caught me as that’s exactly what I was just going to do! But do our blogs ever get finished? Even with the dramatic change here, I still have a ways to go, things I want to add, bits I need to clean up.
Oh, and I’m dying to try out Bart-Jan Verhoef’s worn look …
Yeah, I like Bart-Jan’s look, too. LOL, but did you see what he said when Smashing Magazine featured him??
Oh, and I forgot to say last time I commented that I recently found Airborn and Dreaming, too (I think she linked to me and I went to check it out). I really love her blog design!

LOL! Yeah, Bart-Jan’s post in response to Smashing Mag was what grabbed me. He makes a lot of sense really (and I love posts that snarl if they are well written :-D
Everyone does seem to be running around doing what is new and now. Whereas Bart-Jan backed off and went with his first love, his longest love.
And while I don’t have the skills to carry it off (but I will give it a shot), he got me thinking about where I came from in design, and that perhaps I need to start leaning back that way?
Airborne and Dreaming – isn’t that a beautiful site? Designing that banner was so quick. So very easy. Her boyfriend took a range of photos so I just grabbed a screen shot and it pretty much designed itself.
Cool. I love the way you use these banners! I didn’t realise you had a template and designers could make their own. Cool!

Thanks! I don’t feature the banners near enough as I should. And really, that’s what makes DWB warmer, with a more human touch.
When I looked at the banners on this post, they’ve pretty much been created by the designers. Either by sending in completed banners, or by having a photo taken that slots in without anything much from me at all.
Hi! It’s Macarena from maomao! The book is finally off my hands… but still has a long way of revisions, printings and shippings to go. You’ll still have to wait some time to see the 15 banners that will appear… and lots of other bloggers that i see around dwb too! Thanks to everyone for participating in the book!
