Alert: I had difficulty keeping this post short because (besides Bangkok), KL is one of my favourite cities in all of SE Asia. Kuching is another, and both KL and Kuching are in Malaysia. A match.
Nick Mun of 23PSI is from KL. What’s a KL? Well, in SE Asia it’s common to shorten names. City or town names especially.
So KL is Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), KK is Kota Kinabalu (Malaysia), KB is Kuala Belait (Brunei) and BSB is Bandar Seri Begawan (Brunei).
(Note: Some expats say Lumpa instead of Lumpur. In Thailand, it carries the same meaning when pronouncing Kwai as in the western movie, the Bridge over the River Kwai. Humorous to locals in both countries, I’m sure. And I’ll leave Nick to tell you the meaning of both).
Continuing on … before I left Borneo (9 years of fun and sun), Bangkok was reduced to its airline tag BK, and Singapore to SQ. Going further, diplomats naturally became Dips, and diplomatic functions, Dip Do’s.
And seems like Nick was having similar fun in Peninsular Malaysia.
Once upon a time I practiced as a lawyer. After turning my back on that, I found myself in media, communications, marketing and design; in more or less that order.
Law, media communications, marketing and design. 23PSI is sure to be great reading. As a relatively new blog, I’m particularly interested in seeing how his photography section pans out.
23PSI is primarily a design blog which I update from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where I am based. The other thing that you should know about me is that I like looking. This blog is also a reflection of that and my way of sharing the things that made me sit up and take notice. Incidentally, 23PSI is also the name of my line of t-shirts which I sell to friends and via two shops in Kuala Lumpur.
23PSI is shaping up fine. Yes? At the moment the shops are not live on 23PSI, but they will be soon (and I’ll be waiting).
Nick (while I have you here) … have you been to the Royal Selangor Club? (The Spotted Dog) The last time there I did the quick zip around the men’s bar. The all men’s bar. I couldn’t help myself.
I remember being told a story about the Sultan of Selangor saving the club, but in a brief google I can’t find it online. Not the juicy stuff anyway. Just, “In 1984, the club was awarded a royal status under the patronage of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, who has voiced his support for the club’s preservation during its 100th anniversary celebration, stating that “This institution should remain forever.”
And while I’m on a KL kick, KL is also world famous for starting off the Hash House Harriers. H3 is now a world wide group of those who run, socialise and drink a LOT of beer.
I started drinking a lot of beer at H3 runs in France before I even dreamed of making my way to KL. To where it all started.
I continued this habit during the H3 jungle runs in Brunei.
Only, being the time management lass that I am, I came up with a shortcut.
I skipped the running part. I even skipped showing up at the runs.
Now, is that great time management. Or what?

Hi Cat. Thanks for the feature. Yes I have but not the bar though. Like you said, no women allowed, which is kind of an anachronism today seeing that it isn’t a men’s club. And the H3. Who would have thought it would spread all over the world! Drinkers with a running problem, that’s what we say about hashers here. ;-)
Back to the blog. The shop will be up soon i.e. as soon as I figure it out. Looking to add a photo blog feature too. Hopefully in the next month or two. Cheers!

Hi Nick.”Drinkers with a running problem” Hah! I haven’t heard that one. The Hash’s in Brunei were really popular. I guess mainly because there wasn’t that much to do. But, I always found something else to do. Running in 32° with high humidity wasn’t for me. No. Not at all.
Please let me know when your shop goes live and I’ll post again. As well as your photography blog. From the photos you have in there now, I can already tell I’m going to love it. Fingers crossed, I’m upgrading my camera this weekend. With a new camera and HDR, I’ll be posting more about photography in the future.

Cat. Will drop you a line when that happens. Look forward to seeing your photos. BTW, good thing that I don’t have to explain “Lumpa”. :-)
Hi Claire. Hope the shop doesn’t disappoint. But I figure if I’m not making any mistakes, then maybe I’m not trying hard enough. Career changes - there was an uncomfortable period but well worth it.
